You are warmly invited to join the first Legal Philosophy Trident seminar. The seminar will feature Kimberly Kessler Ferzan (UPenn) who will present and discuss her work in progress titled: "Detention and Distrust.

Abstract:

Scholars have argued that the grounds for detaining a defendant pretrial should mirror those for which we might detain the dangerous generally. Yet, in practice, substantial weight is placed on both the defendant’s criminal history and the crime for which the defendant is charged. This leads to the question of whether the defendant can forfeit the presumption of law-abidingness (or the stance of trust) to which we might think citizens are otherwise entitled. This paper interrogates the plausibility and potential limits of such a forfeiture claim.

Practical Information:

The seminar will take place via Zoom and will follow a pre-read format: our speaker will have around 10 minutes to introduce the paper and the remaining time will be dedicated to Q&A with the audience. Registered participants will have access to a copy of the paper at least 5 days ahead of the seminar.

The seminar will take place on Friday, February 10th from 17:00-18:30 (London Time). After you successfully register for the event, a link to a Zoom meeting will be sent to you along with the confirmation of your registration.
